Timothy John Rietveld MemorialTimothy John Rietveld

September 12, 1954-October 24, 2014

Timothy John Rietveld, went home to heaven on Friday, October 24th after a six month battle with cancer.

Tim was born on September 12, 1954 in Harvey, Illinois to Paul and Betty Rietveld. Tim attended Bloom Township High School and graduated in 1972. Tim received his B.S. degree in business and finance from the University of Illinois and his MBA from Oregon State University. On January 8, 1994 he married Susan Schlemeier.

Tim grew up in Chicago Heights, Illinois. Growing up he was either found with a baseball mitt on his hand or completely invested in reading any book that caught his attention. As a teen, he ran his own lawn mowing business and purchased a new GTO with his earnings. Upon completing college, he worked as a real estate appraiser in South Dakota, Minnesota and California as an independent appraiser before settling in Seattle, Washington. He was then employed by Key Bank for 22 years. He received his MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute. Over the course of his career he appraised properties in twenty five states.

Tim and his family found their home at Crossroads Bible Church. His priorities in life; above all else, were learning in church and caring for his family. He was passionate about his children’s love for sports and would be seen on the sidelines watching and supporting them on a weekly basis. He loved to travel to both the Oregon and Washington coasts with his family. He cared deeply about knowledge and was active in his children’s education. He loved history and politics. He enjoyed a wide range of musical genres but often favored classic rock and roll.

Tim was a loving son, brother, husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Susan; children, Matthew, Kristin and Laura; mother, Betty Paarlberg in Lansing, Illinois; sister, Beth Rietveld and brother-in-law, Sam Stern in Corvallis, OR; brother Don Rietveld and sister-in-law Donna in Dyer, Indiana; brother Ken Rietveld in Mundelien, Illinois; nephews and niece, Josh Rietveld, Crete, Illinois and Justin and Courtney Strohmeyer, both of Portland, Oregon. All will forever be influenced by his love, support and example. Tim was preceded in death by his father, Paul Rietveld in 1987.
